A Brief Overview of the History of Business Security
Early humans were once nocturnal to protect themselves from predators who hunted during the daytime. They developed night vision and excellent senses to adapt to this lifestyle and avoided extinction. But what does this have to do with commercial security? There’s not a direct link, but this was the first practice and behavior humans took on to protect themselves and their possessions.

It’s hard to imagine connecting the dots between then and now, or even imagining how our ancestors lived millions of years ago, but below, we provide a brief overview of the history of commercial security by starting at the beginning.
A Brief Overview of the History of Commercial Security
In the beginning…early humans used clubs for protection. Then, they created other weapons like bows, arrows, and slingshots to help protect them and increase their survival rates. Next, they began to rescue abandoned wolf pups and raise them alongside babies. The dogs became domesticated guard dogs who protected them and their families.
Jumping closer to modern day and we see that security guards become popular during the industrial revolution. The role of the security guard has now evolved to take into account personal safety and the safety of one’s surroundings. Banks, schools, museums, and many other organizations employ a team of security guards to help protect their physical property, employees, and their customers.
Also in the 18th and 19th century, steel became widely used, which led to the widespread use of stronger vaults. Intellectual property, money, and other valuables were stored in vaults then and are still used today for such items. In fact, well-constructed ones have some of the most complicated locking mechanisms known.
More secure locks and alarm systems were also introduced in the 18th and 19th century, and the first video surveillance camera was installed in 1968 in a small town in New York. This brings us up to speed with modern technologies implemented to protect against modern threats.
Although this wraps up millions of years of evolution in a few paragraphs, the history of protecting oneself, loved ones, and businesses has evolved and will continually evolve as our world continues to grow larger and smarter. Of course, now security measures are largely focused on digital data and encryption but don’t forget, physical security is just as important as cybersecurity.
Modern Threats and Smart Business Security Systems
The Commercial Security industry wasn’t the same after the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995, but not enough was done then to prevent another terrorist attack on U.S soil. Not only that, but companies across the world continue to neglect ways they can increase security measures to prevent break-ins, theft, and fire damage.
Unfortunately, modern threats seem to be getting harder to prevent, control, and manage, but that’s why we exist, to provide better ways to secure your business. We combine the best of human know-how with the latest technology to create truly comprehensive and customizable security solutions.
